Biography

Dr. David Ikua Muriithi is a lecturer of geography at Murangá University of Technology in the school of humanities and social sciences.

Dr. Muriithi earned his Doctorate Degree (PhD) in Geography and Environmental Studies from the University of Nairobi on 15th December 2023.

He also holds a master’s of arts degree in geography (environmental planning and management) and a Bachelor of Education (Arts-Geography major and Business Studies minor) from the University of Nairobi.

Dr. Muriithi has been trained on various modules such as conceptual and methodological seminars, field studies, and scientific writing courses by the International Graduate School (IGS North-South) offered by the University of Basel, Bern, Lausanne, Zurich, and Cetrad-Kenya on global change, innovation, and sustainable development.

Dr. Muriithi is a registered member of the Environmental Institute of Kenya and a licensed environmental lead expert by the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA).

Dr. Muriithi is a practicing consultant in environmental impact assessments, environmental audits, waste management, environmental planning, management, and conservation.

Prior to his appointment at Murangá University of Technology, Dr. Muriithi was a Senior Master IV-T-Scale 9 (Grade C4), a senior teacher of geography and business studies employed by the Teachers Service Commission-Kenya (TSC) and posted at Kiru Boys High School in Murangá County. In his tenure with TSC, Dr. Muriithi demonstrated exceptional dedication, professionalism, and commitment to academic excellence. He significantly contributed to the institution’s growth and the academic performance of the students in his added responsibilities as the Dean of Studies, Head of the Academic Department, and County Music Secretary.

Dr. Muriithi has published several articles in many international peer-reviewed journals in areas of human and physical geography and environmental studies. He is a member of the editorial and review board of the Asian Journal of Agriculture and Food Sciences. He has attended a number of conferences, workshops, and excursions.

Dr. Muriithi’s current research interests are in climate variability and its impacts on agriculture, food security, livelihoods, and adaptations.
