Dr Laban K. Rotich

Biography

Dr. Laban K. Rotich is an accomplished Tourism Management Lecturer, Scholar and Expert. He poses over ten years of active participation in university teaching, research and administration duties. Dr. Rotich has taught and examined diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate level tourism and travel students at a number of Technical and Vocational Education and Training Institutes (TVET) and Universities respectively, in Kenya. More importantly, he has served as a full time Tourism and Travel Management Lecturer at The Technical University of Kenya (TUK) since December, 2015 before joining Murang’a University of Technology in September 2024. Dr. Rotich is instrumental in teaching a wide spectrum of undergraduate and postgraduate level courses at Murang’a University of Technology. In the year 2015, Dr. Rotich was identified by The Technical University of Kenya as a potential researcher and was put under the staff development program to pursue Ph.D. studies. Since the year 2015, he exhibited strong analytical and critical thinking skills as well as knowledge in the tourism thematic area. To attest to this, he has published ten research articles in high impact refereed journals (details can be found in CV).

Dr. Rotich has also developed and presented scholarly research papers in different scientific academic conferences and seminars as indicated in CV. There is evidence that findings from his research have been cited, downloaded and read (details can be found here on research gate: https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Laban-Rotich-2/stats) indicating relevance to inform existing body of knowledge, policy frameworks and industry practice. Where grants are concerned, Dr. Rotich has actively participated in high level research grant trainings and seminars (details can be found in CV). A notable training worth mentioning was a virtual grant writing training for early career researchers supported by Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) and Kenyatta University held in 2021. Dr. Rotich received invaluable knowledge, tools, ideas, tips and techniques from top-rated expert professors. This enabled development of a project dubbed ‘enhancing climate resilience of Universities’ that he successfully submitted to Association of Common Wealth Universities (ACU) Common Wealth Research Grant 2023. Furthermore, jointly with Professor Pius Odunga of Kirinyaga University, they have submitted a bid to the Republic of Gambia for a Tourism Diversification and Resilience project.
