Biography

Prof. Benson M. Mwangi is an Associate Professor in Aquatic Ecology at the Department of Physical and Biological Sciences, School of Pure, Applied and Health Sciences of Murang’a University of Technology. Since March 2022, he has been the Director, Mariira Campus for Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. He completed his O-level studies at Murang’a High School in 1978, where he scored Division I. He then joined Muhoho High for his A-level studies and finished in 1980, scoring 2 Principals and 1 sub-diary. In 1981, he joined the University of Nairobi to study Zoology and Botany, graduating in 1985 with a score of Upper Second Class Honours. In 1992, he graduated with a master’s degree in aquatic Ecology from Kenyatta University and later in 2000 with a PhD in Limnology from Vienna University, Austria. He also has a Postgraduate Diploma in Limnology from the International Postgraduate Graduate Course in Limnology from Mondsee, Austria. Prof. Mwangi has worked as Fisheries Officer (2016-2018), Lecturer (1999-2013), Senior Lecturer (2014-2021) and Associate Professor (2022- ). He has supervised to completion over 25 masters students and 4 PhD students. He has published over 20 articles in peer reviewed journals. He has won over 7 research grants and being in development of many research projects.
